What do they do?

EH Smith is one of the largest independent builders merchants in the UK. The company provides products and services to tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts. It has more than 95 years experience in the construction industry. The business operates from eleven branch locations with specialist teams in bricks, timber and general building materials.

Remote Working Project

Previous to the UK lockdown representatives of the company attended a Microsoft Teams event run by Zenzero Solutions. They wanted to learn more about how Teams could help the business. At this point EH Smith were mainly using email to share documents, collaborate on projects and provide company updates. Within a few days of the event the government urged businesses to allow their staff to work from home where possible.

EH Smith had been impressed by the Teams presentation and asked Zenzero to pull together a robust working proposal to allow remote home working for office based employees based on the Microsoft Teams platform. Builders merchants are classed as an essential part of the construction supply chain. EH Smith took the decision to temporarily close nearly all branch operations to protect their staff while maintaining direct to site and essential deliveries where possible.

Zenzero’s role:

Zenzero’s team knew they had to work quickly to ensure the transition from office to home working was as smooth and efficient as possible to keep the business running. Zenzero’s technical team’s first move was to map out the requirements of the company. Once this had been completed the next job was to set up 400 office and administrative staff to work remotely and securely from home. EH Smith wanted to continue collaboration and communication among staff who were used to working in the same physical location but who were now having to do the same job remotely. The customer team were on hand to take phone calls and answer questions from EH Smith employees as well as providing technical support. The project was completed in five days.
